Biology

Chemistry

In their “Personal Statement” applicants should be sure to address the following questions:

• How do your future research interests fit with those of the faculty in the chemistry department? Refer to the department’s faculty listing at https://chemistry.wfu.edu/people/faculty/ for further information).
• What are your motivations for pursuing graduate school, and what are your future career goals?
• What experiences, research or other relevant science engagement, have you had and how have they influenced your decision to pursue graduate studies?

Communication

Computer Science

This program requests that applicants include a separate 1-2 page essay addressing the following questions. This essay WILL REPLACE the general “Personal Statement” requirement.

• What research experience have you had?
• How did you benefit from those experiences?
• What do you view as the role of computer science research experience in your future goals?

Counseling

This program requests that you submit a current curriculum vitae or resume. This requirement applies to both the on-line and on-campus programs.

*International Applicants are not eligible for the On-Line MA program

Documentary Film

• Personal Interview – Based on the material contained in his or her application, an applicant may be invited by the department for an interview either in person or online.
• Portfolio material is requested, but not required.

Education

English

This program requests a writing sample between 2,500 and 3,000 words. This writing sample is IN ADDITION to the “Personal Statement” and should be attached to the on-line application.

Health and Exercise Science

• This program requests a one page resume and a one page statement outlining the applicant’s interest in exercise science, reasons for applying to the program, and a description of your future goals. This statement WILL REPLACE the general “Personal Statement” requirement.
• Although not a requirement for admission, the department highly recommends that applicants schedule an interview with the HES Graduate Program Director in December, January, or February.

Interpreting and Translation Studies

• Interpreting and Translation Track:
  Applicants to either the MA or the Certificate Programs who do not have a college or high school degree from another country are required to take an language aptitude assessment in their non-native language. To take the online test in Spanish, please contact Dr. Luis González at gonzall@wfu.edu. For individual assessment in other languages, contact Dr. Olgierda Furmanek at furmano@wfu.edu.
• Teaching of Interpreting Track:
  Proven interpreting experience is required for both the MA and the Certificate programs.

Liberal Arts Studies

• Please focus the personal statement on your goals for study in this degree program.
• Please provide a writing sample of 5-10 pp — academic paper, editorial or opinion piece, proposal for your workplace organization, or other options.
• At least two of the three letters of recommendation must be from professors who can write in detail about the applicant’s academic abilities.
• Interview with Program Director (in person, by phone or online meeting app).

Mathematics

*Review of applications will begin on January 15 and for full consideration applications should be received by this date. The application portal will remain open until February 15.

Physics

In their “Personal Statement” applicants should be sure to address the following questions:

• How do your future research interests fit with those of the faculty in the physics department? Refer to the faculty research interests at https://physics.wfu.edu/research/ for further information.
• What faculty are you interested in working with?
• What are your motivations for pursuing graduate school, and what are your future career goals?
• What experiences, research, or other relevant science engagement, have you had and how have they influenced your decision to pursue graduate studies?

Psychology

Applicants should submit a research statement to the Graduate School along with application materials addressing the following. This statement WILL REPLACE the general “Personal Statement” requirement.

• What research experiences have you had and how have they benefited you?
• How do your research interests fit with those of the faculty in the psychology department? Please list your interests (see the department’s web site at psychology.wfu.edu/graduate-program for further information about the departmental faculty and their research interests).
• What are your future career goals?

Statistics

Sustainability

This program requests that applicants include a separate essay addressing the following questions. This essay WILL REPLACE the general “Personal Statement” requirement.

• Describe how the Master of Arts in Sustainability will help you achieve your career goals.
• Address where you see yourself working and what you will be doing in ten years and how this program can help you accomplish your goals.
• Also upon completion of the program, what criteria would you use to judge whether the program was a success?

Application Fee

The application fee is payable by credit card. Payment of the application fee is required in order to submit an application and is required with each application for admission you submit. Payment instructions are located at the end of the application process. The submission of your application will not be complete until this fee is paid.

Application fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable.

Application Fee Waivers

We do not currently offer fee waivers for international applicants. Application fee waiver requests are available for certain groups of domestic applicants. If you believe you qualify for an application fee waiver, please email gradadmissions@wfu.edu indicating why you meet one of the 3 criteria listed below:

After you submit your application fee waiver via email, it will be reviewed by the Graduate School. If your fee waiver request is approved, the application will be processed, and no further action is needed. If denied, you will be notified by email and the application will not be processed until the application fee is received. Fee waiver requests must be received before the deadline for any application to be considered. After you have submitted your fee waiver request, please allow several days for your request to be reviewed by The Graduate School. We will send additional information, including status updates, via email.

1. Full-time permanent employees of Wake Forest University who are eligible for tuition concession.
2. Active duty or veteran military personnel
3. U.S. citizens who meet the following need-based eligibility have received need-based financial aid in the current/most recent term of enrollment. To qualify for a need-based fee waiver, please provide a verification letter on letterhead signed by your current institution’s financial aid office to be considered. If you are unable to obtain a letter from your current institution’s financial aid office, please send official financial aid award statements from the current/most recent term of enrollment.

We are happy to consider your waiver request once you have sent the required documentation showing that you meet the criteria described above. You may be contacted by the Graduate School Admissions Office for additional information.

This is a fee waiver process and not a fee payment reimbursement process. Once the application fee is paid, a waiver or reimbursement is no longer an option.
